How to choose your wine cellar

Choosing a wine cellar may seem complicated, but rest assured, we're here to help! Every wine cellar has its own characteristics and performance, to suit a particular use. So, before anything else, you need to ask yourself a few essential questions to find out what you really want in terms of home wine storage. Let us guide you

Tips for choosing the right cellar

To help you make the right choice for your wine cellar, Avintage would like to give you some advice and ask you a few essential questions to guide you in your search, but also to help you mature your project.

How do you use it?

How will your wine cellar be used? In other words, what do you want to do with your wine? Age it until it reaches maturity and the peak of the vintage; or store different wines at ideal tasting temperature?

Which installation?

Will the room where your wine cellar is installed be heated? As we explained at the start of this article, to store a wine cellar in an unheated room, it must be fitted with a heating system to maintain the set cellar temperature in the event of a sudden drop in ambient temperature. However, this system is not necessary for installation in a living room.

How many bottles?

How many bottles do you want to store? If you already think you can quickly fill a 30-bottle cellar, we strongly advise you to think about investing directly in a 50-60-bottle capacity. We can assure you that storing wine at home is such a pleasure that you'll find plenty of opportunities to buy more! The same applies to much larger capacities: if your collection is already flirting with 120 bottles, don't think too small, or you'll soon regret it (especially when it comes to ageing wine, where new châteaux and vintages are often purchased in full 6-bottle cases).

What's the budget?

What budget are you prepared to invest in a wine cellar? This is an important criterion which will also help you refine the selection of wine cellars to suit your needs.
